After the Captain stocked up on some ice and we left Anegada stop six on my journey to see seven islands in seven days was going to be the party child of the BVI, Jost Van Dyke. This is where you’ll find lively beach bars like Foxy’s and the famous Soggy Dollar Bar, where you have to anchor offshore and swim to the bar holding your money overhead ( hence the “soggy dollar” name). Part of the tradition involves…

Having a few signature cocktails, called “painkillers” ( for recipe see earlier blog) and then spending the day on lounging on the beach until you’re ready to swim back to your boat. Of course you don’t need to drink anything alcoholic but either way at this tiny beach bar you’re forced to relax and forget about your troubles for awhile!

I’ve hung out in these sailor haunts before so this time instead of following the crowd we headed instead to Little Yost Van Dyke, a much smaller and more primitive island just east of all the action. Going ashore I only found two small buildings, Foxy’s Taboo, a smaller version of the original Foxy’s and a tiny boutique featuring some of the coolest bathing suits I’ve ever found.

It was so strange to find this little shop out in the middle of nowhere, next to a bar, but I ended up buying two bathing suits and some earrings, my first souvenirs of the trip. I don’t usually shop on these trips but figure it was probably because I knew the next day we would be heading back to the Moorings to return the Catamaran. Our journey was almost over and I was looking for someway to hold on to the memories. A new bathing suit seemed as good of way as any!

So, tomorrow it would be a trip back to the Marina and that meant I would only have one more stop, one more resort to check out. Tomorrow it would be the seventh day of my trip and my seventh island.

For this last night at sea I decided to grab a blanket and pillow and sleep under the stars. I fought off sleep as long as I could because I wanted to soak in as much of the experience as possible because I knew tomorrow would come much too fast.
