ATV Adventure-Mexico

One of the newest ways to explore the areas outside Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa is by ATV. One of the locals decided this would be a great way to not only cover uncharted territory but to teach tourists about the three different eco-systems in this area and one of the coolest things is…

There are three different trips offered by the new Adventuras En ATV tour group depending on what you’re looking for and there’s even a sunset trip down to the beach. We chose the tour (photo of Alisha, one of the adventursome!) that starts in 9am in the morning because for this one your guide takes you through small Mexican towns along the Sierra Madres, farms, coconut plantations and then down to the beach where you get to ride right next to the waves!

I was surprised at all the safety measures taken and by the time you head off you’re not only wearing a helmet but goggles and even a mud cover over your mouth so you’re entire face is covered and protected. They market this as more as a sightseeing trip than an “adventure” trip but don’t let that foul you because you fly through rivers, careen up and down steep hills and roar across the beach chasing waves.

Our guide, the owner of the tour company, Ignacio Leon, nicknames “natural” made sure to make several stops along the way to educate us about what we were seeing. There are several hundred species of birds in this area and you also see a lot of livestock. I was most impressed with the massive coconut plantations we drove through and all the mango and papaya trees.

The highlight was when we came out of the jungle foothills and ended up on the beach of Pantla. This stretch of beach was gorgeous and so far there are really no major homes here and you just know that’s not going to last long.

Right now the company hasn’t set up a website yet but says all the hotels in the area know about them and can help you set up a trip. Trust me, it’s worth the time and money. Right now the morning three hour trip is only $95 and when you consider there would be no other way to see this part of Mexico it really is a fabulous deal.. For more great adventure trips check out www.mytraveltherapy.com!
