Broadway Ticket Deals

I just learned a valuable lesson. If you’re looking for tickets to a Broadway play or musical in NYC shop around and you could save as much as 50% on even the hottest shows!  I was looking for tickets to the new award-winning play, August Osage County and I wanted a specific date, a Saturday night coming up fast, so I went to the website and bought the full price tickets through Telecharge. I was thrilled because I got the tickets I wanted and was feeling pretty smug  until I also started looking for tickets to RENT, wanting to see this Broadway legend before it closed on June 1st.

I heard about a site where I could get tickets almost half off, especially to shows like RENT that have been around awhile.  I’m always skeptical about buying tickets from any “discount” site but after talking with some locals and some more research I found there are several places where you can get great deals if you’re willing to shop around a bit.

Plus, if you’re willing to stand in line the day of a performance and get last minute tickets, prices are slashed even more.  Here’s the lowdown.  One of the discount online sites I like best is www.broadwaybox.com because there’s no fee, no memberships and no cost to use. This site doesn’t actually sell the tickets it gives out discount codes given out by the shows producers and links you to the site where you can use the code, often right back to telecharge, etc.

After paying more than $100 a piece for tickets to August Osage County I found tickets on the www.broadwaybox.com site for the show the same night for just $49 plus tax. The seats weren’t quite as good but for half price it was a great deal. The site also had a code for RENT where tickets are just $65, $55,$40 so I snatched up some tickets right away wanting to see RENT before it closes this summer.

If your flexible and have some patience to wait in line another great way to score discount Broadway tickets is by going to two TKTS booths in Manhattan, one in Times Square the other in the Financial District. Depending on the time of year people usually start lining up about an hour before the booths open and you can get tickets for that night at up to 50% off!

**NOTE** they only take cash or travelers checks. Also, check the list of available performances that’s always posted outside the booth before you get in line. This is a fun way to go if you just want to go to a show and are willing to take what you can get when it’s your turn.

My advice is, if you want to see a specific show on specific night don’t risk it, get the tickets online at a site like www.broadwaybox.com. Also, never buy tickets from random people on the street, just not smart. Remember you’re in NYC not Kansas!

Coming up tomorrow some of the hottest shows on Broadway right now. For more TRAVEL THERAPY tips go to the TRAVEL THERAPY website at www.mytraveltherapy.com.
