I always find sunsets inspiring. the breathtaking colors always remind me to push forward, never settle and always be willing to try something new. So, after a lot of research I finally did it and I’ve added travel ads to this site. I truly think this makes the TRAVEL THERAPY blog even stronger, adding content to actually help people enhance their travel experience by giving them as much information as possible targeted to exactly what they’re interested about. What do you think? It was tough….

picking the best blog ads, especially when I had no clue how to start. I knew I didn’t want any of those annoying pop ups that flash in your face, I needed to know the best way to block popups and I didn’t want any blog ads that would run inside the content of my posts, distracting from the reading experience.

What I did want is to provide the best blog ads that would give travelers links to different destinations and travel products without getting in the way of what the TRAVEL THERAPY blog is all about. I needed ads that targeted luxury travel, adventure vacations, the best spas, top golf courses, fine cuisine, family vacations, the most romantic honeymoons and couple’s escape and private islands getaways.

So I started asking around “How do you use Google Adsense?” “What are the best ad programs for blogs” “How do you set up ads on a blog?” “What are the best travel ads for blogs?” I just kept asking and researching until I got all the answers on the best way to puts ads on a blog.

Since I started this travel blog last year I’ve been asked by a lot of my amazing travel contacts to post their ads on my site, but haven’t had the time with traveling so much to design the right place for the content, so for now I found the smartest place to turn was Google Adsense for quality blog ads that are directly related to your blog content.

Here’s how you get started with putting Google Adsense on your blog. First you apply as Google needs to make sure your site is “Google” worthy and the right fit for the program. It takes about two days to hear back but once you’re accepted into the program you’re given a password and away you go.  The real key to Google Adsense is how Google constantly scans your site to make sure only ads that related to your content are included and you also have veto power if you don’t like an ad that’s coming up.

You also get to decide where the ads go, so in my case, since I had blog ads that are pop-ups or are ads that are in the content of a blog, I was able to design ads that are classy and clean and complement my site instead of clutter it up. You get to pick the size of your ad, the color, the shape, everything and selecting the right blog ads is really fairly easy with the setup they have so even if you’re not a tech genius you can still figure it out.

Overall, here are the top tips for adding ads to your blog.

TOP FIVE TIPS FOR BLOG ADS

*Make sure the ads on your blog match your content

*Make sure you can control the ad placement, style and size

*Blog ad location is key, don’t distract from your blog content

*Listen to feedback and check forums for updated information

*Use a blog ad program you trust and understand

So I’m excited about being able to add more content to the TRAVEL THERAPY blog that will hopefully help travelers find even more information to help make their vacations and special events fantastic, especially with the TRAVEL THERAPY book coming out next Spring!

The coolest thing now with these new blog ads is when you’re reading one of the TRAVEL THERAPY posts you’ll actually find ads that go with the content you’re readin, so if you’re interested in  finding out more about that destination  you can just click on those ads and keep your research going. Love it, Love it, Love it!

I also heard about another successful ad program for blogs called Chitika where you can actually pick products that related to your site and add links to them. Since TRAVEL THERAPY is all about traveling and I love gadgets, I thought it would be cool to add some of the best new travel gadgets to this site. So now when you’re surfing the site you can always find the latest news and product information and even sales on the best travel gadgets I could find including: Ipods, Phones, GPS devices and of course cameras!

Again, I put all this information at the bottom of the page so it wouldn’t get in the way of the content but I even find myself clicking on the different items and I’m already hooked on one of the top travel gadgets, a portable GPS system. It’s already on my Christmas list and heaven only knows I could use it as my sense of direction isn’t always so hot!

Since this TRAVEL THERAPY blog is always a work in progress please let me know what you think of the new addition of these targeted blog ads to the site and send on any suggestions or anything else you’d like to see that could possible help in the travel experience. Looking forward to hearing your feedback!
