The best part of kayaking as a TRAVEL THERAPY adventure is where you do the kayaking. At Duck Key, in the heart of the Florida Keys, there are some great opportunities to get out on the water without all the crowds and often times you feel like you have the whole place to yourself! For about $40 you can rent a kayak for the day from the Hawks Cay Marina and then you can either venture out into the Atlantic Ocean for a real challenge or stay closer in the harbor and head over to a tiny slice of land called Tom’s Island where you can get out and stretch your legs and do some excellent beachcombing.

The 50-year old Hawks Cay Resort recently reopened after a $35-million dollar refresh and owns about 40 of the 60 acres of Duck Key and much of the area is surrounded by canals, also perfect for kayaking. You’ll see some amazing million dollar homes built on the canals but ask ahead about the current because the waves can kick up a pretty good fight in the canals when the weather is windy.

After you turn in your kayak walk a few feet and refuel at Tom’s Harbor  House. All the seafood here is excellent especially the peel and eat shrimp!

Coming up…more on Hawks Cay Resort and why this is one of the best kept secrets in the Florida Keys.
