There’s no doubt one of the best ways to truly experience the beauty of the British Virgin Islands is by boat. If you schedule your trip in the off-season you can save substantially and still find the TRAVEL THERAPY you’re searching for.

Traditionally the BVI has been a sailor’s paradise offering the ultimate vacation for anyone looking to relax and chill out, but I’ve just learned from my latest trip that more large luxury power boats, or yachts, are visiting the area.   

On a power boat you can still get to those secret hard to reach places and cover ground more quickly in case your time in the BVI is limited. Whatever boat you decide on a smart option is to get a captain so you can spend your time snorkeling and sipping cold drinks and not have to worry about anchoring the boat, etc.  

The BVI is in the southern part of the Caribbean that is rarely hit by hurricanes but when you travel between September and November you always run the risk of running into bad weather so you need to take the proper precautions. 

Two top charter companies in the BVI, The Moorings and Virgin Traders, both offer huge discounts for boating September through November so be sure to ask for the latest specials and incentives when searching for an off season bargain. Usually prices more than double once you hit the popular Christmas season and beyond.   

Also keep in mind that in September and October some of the famed beach bars and resorts close down for a few weeks for seasonal renovations and to give their staff some time off before the busy winter season starts up. Check ahead so you’re not missing anything that’s on your “to do” list.  

Another great way to plan a vacation in the BVI is to alternate between spending time sleeping on your boat and at different resorts. This way you’re not just seeing one resort, you’re sampling several different options and then you can always pick your favorite place and spend more time at that property when you come back.
