KAREN SCHALER
As the author of the TRAVEL THERAPY book and the creator & editor of the TRAVEL THERAPY website & blog, Karen Schaler, is a three-time Emmy award-winning multi-media journalist with more than 15-years of professional TV reporting, writing & hosting experience.
From working as a TV war correspondent, embedded with a combat Apache helicopter unit in Afghanistan, to crossing the globe as a TV travel host and reporter covering some of the most luxurious and inspiring destinations in the world, Schaler is a passionate storyteller who says she writes because she has to, it’s in her blood and bones.
Schaler currently works as a freelance TV travel host and correspondent for ABC’s new national half-hour travel show that’s also airing in 20 countries and she’s working to develop a TRAVEL THERAPY reality TV series highlighting how travel can help empower and change people’s lives.

With degrees in Communications and Sociology, Schaler has traveled to more than 30 countries and has written more than 900 nationally and internationally published travel articles, including seven national magazine cover stories.
Schaler credits her hip, edgy writing style and her wanderlust spirit to her background as a television broadcast journalist. She was the first TV journalist ever embedded with troops in Bosnia where she reported live and executive produced, wrote and reported in a half-hour documentary.
In 2007, Schaler was the first journalist ever embedded with a combat Apache helicopter unit in Afghanistan where she reported daily and executive produced, wrote and reported in a one hour documentary. Her exclusive coverage from both Bosnia and Afghanistan earned her Emmys.

Schaler has worked as an on-air television correspondent for CNN, and has worked as a reporter/anchor at ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX affiliates in major markets across the country. Growing up outside of Seattle, Washington, Schaler has lived in ten different states and currently is based in NYC. Constantly globetrotting around the world, Schaler says her home now, “is wherever I put my suitcase.”
