Sometimes the perfect TRAVEL THERAPY is cuddling up with someone you love by a roaring fireplace, grabbing a hot cup a chocolate and celebrating life in a remote part of the world where you can truly lose yourself on your vacation. If you’re looking for “remote” but still want luxury, one of my favorite winter getaway destinations is staying in the Canadian Rockies, at a fabulous resort called Chateau Lake Louise in Banff National Park about 45 minutes west of Banff. Nestled next to the Alberta, British Columbia border this first-class resort has it all. The tourism folks say it’s got “glitz and granola,” and I love that!

As soon as you pull up to the resort you’ll want to grab your camera and start snapping pictures because everywhere you look you feel like you’ve just jumped into a postcard. The Chateau is right on Lake Louise and surrounded by the Rocky mountains.

A new wing of the hotel has updated rooms with comfy window seats but I warn you, you may forget the time gazing out at the scenery. This is the kind of place you can come to relax and re-energize. There’s a long list of winter activities to keep you busy from the usual, skiing and ice-skating, to ice hiking, snowshoeing and even dog sledding.

The Chateau, with just over 500 rooms also has almost a dozen world-class restaurants to choose from. Don’t miss the amazing breakfast buffet at Poppy Brasserie or celebrate a special occasion at the renowned Tom Wilson Steakhouse. If you find you want to leave to venture out a bit, just down the road there’s another cute place to eat or relax with a cocktail called The Lake Louise Station Restaurant. Ask to sit by the fireplace and if you hear something rumble by don’t worry, it’s just a train because the tracks run right by the place!
