Finally, I’m able to check out Portugal! It’s a destination I’ve been researching and knew even before I arrived that it was going to make an ideal Travel Therapy trip.

Forget the fact I’m fighting a cold that’s currently kicking my butt, because there wasn’t anything that was going to stop me from exploring this unique part of the world that I’ve had my eye on for awhile, especially the Algarve, the southern most tip of Portugal, where tiny, stunning beaches are tucked away in the cliffs, mostly hidden from view.

I’ve quickly found after spending 8 hours driving the coast that the real beauty of the Algarve is the variety of beaches you’ll find. You have your big long stretches of white sand and other Algarve beaches are so small you can barely land a boat on them.

With Algarve beaches there’s something for everyone…

Family friendly, check.

Romantic escape, check, check.

Surfing, check, check, check!

You get the picture.

So if you’re looking for an affordable Travel Therapy beach vacation in Europe that’s off the beaten path you’ll want to seriously consider Portugal’s impressive Algarve where off season you can find a vacation home for less than $300 euros a month and even in high season, by a beach, you can score a one bedroom place for around  $650 euros a month.

For the best savings and an authentic experience you’ll just want to avoid the high season of July and August, when Europeans, especially Germans and the English flock to the Algarve filling up hotels and vacation homes.

Right now in April up to June it’s a fantastic time to visit because the weather is warming up nicely, it’s usually sunny and around 70 degrees, and you can avoid the crowds and get the best deals.

There are some great resorts in the Algarve where in the off season you can find some fantastic specials. For instance at the award-winning five-star Vila Vita Parc resort in April rooms start at around $215 euros a night and that includes breakfast. Vila Vita is in a perfect location to explore the Algarve, almost smack in the middle, and the views are incredible because it’s perched on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with two secluded, breathtaking beaches you’ll have a hard time leaving. One of the beaches is featured in this photo, so see… I wasn’t kidding!

Coming up…more on the Vila Vita Parc including an inside look at this 54 acre resort’s exciting new room redesign, new spa treatments, Vila Vitas own winery and award winning wines and the resort’s 8 restaurants, where creative cuisine and using local, fresh ingredients rule. One of Vila Vita’s restaurants called Ocean has even been honored with a coveted Michelin star.

Stay tuned!
