They say writing a book is like having a baby. That no matter what your “baby” looks like once it finally arrives, you love it instantly. Still, I was nervous to finally see my “baby”. Here’s why.

I’m a perfectionist and this was no ordinary book, not by a long shot. Upping the ante I had added dozens of amazing photographs, pull quotes, quizzes, checklist and sidebars. The design of the book was complicated and my feelings for the book even more so.

Once I realized I had used travel my entire life to help me through the tough times and celebrate the special ones, I knew the TRAVEL THERAPY concept was one I wanted and needed to share. So I started writing the book believing that if it helped even one person the journey would be worth it.

The idea for TRAVEL THERAPY came to me after I returned home from being an embedded war correspondent in Afghanistan. When I was with a combat Apache Helicopter Unit the base I was at was bombed and more than twenty people were killed just yards away from where I was standing.

When I got home people kept asking “were you scared, did you think you were going to die?” I can honestly say I wasn’t worried about dying because all I could think about was if I was living my life the way I was supposed to. Was I doing all I could to make a difference?

After reporting from Afghanistan I came home and a few months later I quit my job, cashed in my saving and started writing TRAVEL THERAPY. So is it any wonder I’ve worried about seeing my “baby?” It’s sounds so clique but the TRAVEL THERAPY book really is part of my heart and soul.

When the book came today I sat with the package for a long time just staring at it. I had followed my dream, my heart and my conscious and the proof was right in front of me and all I had to do was open the package. When I finally ripped it open and saw my “baby” I was speechless. TRAVEL THERAPY in print was even more beautiful than I imaged. The inspiring photographs jumped off the glossy pages and the stories of people who have seen their lives changed through travel pulled me in.

The dream is now a reality.

TRAVEL THERAPY is born and the coolest part is the journey is beginning all over again. The book TRAVEL THERAPY: Where Do You Need to Go? comes out in book stores in a few weeks and you can already buy  it online. You can also follow the journey on this TRAVEL THERAPY website and blog. It’s mind boggling that it’s actually all happening and now I can share the TRAVEL THERAPY concept.

So like the book asks, ‘Where Do You Need to Go?’ I’d love to hear your thoughts. Just leave a comment below.
