On this Travel Tuesday it’s all about  finding some sun, sea and surf during the chilly winter months and a destination that’s also affordable and family friendly! So after a soggy, raining week in Paris I’m headed to Captiva and South Seas Island Resort for some much sunshine!

I’ve realized I must be one of those people that need “sun power” because as soon as the sun comes out that’s “therapy” enough for me! After after a gloomy summer and fall in New York City I could really use some sunshine about now. No wonder my other home is in Scottsdale, Arizona!

I’m truly looking forward to this trip to South Seas Island Resort because I’ve been hearing about the property for several years and can’t wait to experience the two and a half miles of private beaches and some of the best shelling in the world. I need a new shell for my collection!

Just about a half hour trip from Ft. Meyers, Florida, this little gem of an island has won all kinds of reward for being everything from a romantic escape to family friendly.

The South Seas Island Resort has just wrapped up a 140 million dollar re-birth featuring all kinds of different places to stay from private guest homes and villas to comfy hotel rooms. My schedule is full this next week taking in all that is new and exciting so I can share it here on the TRAVEL THERAPY blog and get ready to do several travel features highlighting this unique, accessible and affordable sunny destination!

Here are a few things I’ll be checking out!

The Best of South Seas Island Resort:

  • Newly opened lagoon pool land cabana complex
  • New restaurants including The Pointe
  • Scoops & Slices-an ice cream and candy heaven
  • Newly redesigned Captiva Golf Club
  • $14 million beach re-nourishment
  • New yacht harbour

I’ll also be doing some sailing with Steve Colgate Offshore Sailing School and kayaking through Darling National Wildlife Refuge and having meals at Doc Ford’s, Harbourside and Kings Crown.
