If you’re looking for a bed and breakfast that’s off the beaten path, has stunning scenery, amazing meals and is affordable you’ll want to check out the Bread & Cheese Inn in Newfoundland!
I was charmed from the instant I drove up to the property because the Bread & Cheese Inn sits perched high on a cliff above the Atlantic Ocean and the view is phenomenal!
The owner of the Inn, Rita Williams, grew up in Bay Bulls, Newfoundland, and has a home next to the Inn. A few years ago she decided she wanted to share her slice of paradise and built the six bedroom inn on the bluff right as tourism in Newfoundland was just taking off.
Rita told me her goal is to offer a comfy and cozy, affordable place to stay where the focus is on relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. Rooms here start at about $100 a night and include a full breakfast.
What I love about the Inn is how all six rooms have views of the Ocean and you can walk the grounds in peace and quiet, never seeing another person. There’s also a path down to an area of the rocky cliffs where they’ve built a fireplace pit for nightly campfires.
Another huge bonus of staying at the Bread & Cheese Inn is that a beautiful stretch of the East Coast Trail is ride outside the Inn’s doorway. One of the highlights of my trip to Newfoundland was doing a short half hour hike on the spout trail that’s right by the Inn and runs right along the cliffs overlooking the ocean. It’s an easy, breathtaking hike and I only wish I had, had more time to walk to the lighthouse that was about an hour away.
A lot of times when I stay at a bed and breakfast I worry about the food you’re going have but at the Bread and Cheese in the meals were outstanding. Authentic, homemade and delicious, Rita has put together quite a menu, serving up not only breakfast, but lunch and dinner, for guests and visitors.
