Following my own advice from my book that when you’re dealing with a nasty health issue to “change your attitude by changing your environment” with TRAVEL THERAPY, I’m heading to Paris, France!
And I can thank a nasty scratched cornea for the trip.
It’s a last minute trip after a visit to the eye doctor uncovered a scratched cornea that had become infected and the doctor said I couldn’t wear my contacts or makeup or work for very long on a computer for two weeks as I risked losing my vision!
Ummm…not work on my computer…a bit of a problem since I make my living working as a writer! I was stunned and blind! I’ve been wearing contacts for years and have never had any problems but I guess it’s all caught up with me and since I didn’t own a pair of glasses, I’ve never had any glasses, this meant a scramble to get something quickly that would work. And when I say “quickly” what I really mean is ugly and not so pretty.
Yes, some of you might be asking “didn’t the doctor tell you to stay off the computer? How can you blog?” Easy, just quickly, as I’m not supposed to be on for two long. Good thing I write fast, but please forgive any typos, etc!
And yes, I KNOW if you wear contacts you’re supposed to have an “emergency” pair of glasses just for stuff like this, believe me some unsympathetic friends have brutally reminded me, but the fact is I didn’t and that left me stuck.
Oh, and did I mention I was also battling a stomach flu. So not fun!
But instead of pouting I had a last minute opportunity to go on Air France’s inaugural trip of the new luxe A380, the largest aircraft in the world, on the first flight from JFK to Paris. The press group was coming back on Tuesday but you could stay on, on your own, if you wanted so I decided in my blind, pathetic state to not only go to Paris but to stay the week!
My first Thanksgiving in Europe and in Paris, no less!
Then what made it even more fun is a good friend and fellow travel writer is going on the trip and also staying the week so we’re teaming up together to find some amazing places to stay for future story coverage and so far our itinerary looks amazing!
We’ll start the trip with the Air France press group staying at Sofitel Arc de Triomphe then we’ll head to Le Meurice, part of the Dorchester Collection that the Palace Hotel in NYC is part of that hosted my glam TRAVEL THERAPY book launch party and then I’ll wrap up staying at The Ritz for Thanksgiving and having a fabulous feast at Le Bristol’s new restaurant.
We’re also checking out the bar scene and spa at Plaza Athenee and also may grab a bite at Alain Ducasse’s award-winning restaurant there and much, much more so stay tuned to the TRAVEL THERAPY blog because this is going to be one amazing week!
