Just finished up my first major travel feature for the iconic Travel+Leisure magazine!
I’m so excited to contribute an online feature to a magazine that I respect so much. I’ve been reading Travel+Leisure since I was a kid, pulling out pretty pictures of places I wanted to visit someday and dreaming the dream of working as a travel writer.
There’s this great scene in the movie Broadcast News where a new television anchor asks a reporter “What do you do when all your dreams are coming true?” and the reporter grumbles, “keep it to yourself!”
I know I’m really lucky that my friends and family understand my choice to go after my dreams and let me share the good moments like this one even if they do think I’m a little crazy for walking away from a successful, lucrative career as a television news reporter and forging off in a completely different direction.
Besides my new book Travel Therapy: Where Do You Need to Go? I’ve also now written more than 700 national travel features for magazines, newspapers and online outlets and this last year I’ve added doing 7 minute TV travel segments with ABC News Now to the list .
But doing a story for T+L has always been a top goal.
Maybe because it means I’ve come so far from being that little kid that kept a file of travel magazine stories that inspired me. Or maybe because in truth, I’m still that little kid at heart, excited about what I can discover around the next corner, only now I can make it happen and I know how lucky I truly am.
It’s why I believe so much in the concept of TRAVEL THERAPY because I know traveling to the right destination can empower and inspire.
So stay tuned for the link to the T+L story but in the meantime check out the magazine’s new, awesome website and find your own inspiring destination. You’ll love the new design!
